Rian Johnson seems to be having a lot of fun, post-The Last Jedi.
A trailer has just dropped for Johnson’s new whodunnit movie Knives Out, and it’s going to be a doozy.
A darkly affectionate send-up of Agatha Christie-style locked-room murder mysteries, Knives Out takes place at a sprawling-but-claustrophobic gothic estate, where its fabulously wealthy patriarch Harlem Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) has just been found dead at his own birthday party. The trailer begins with the arrival of the detectives at the scene of the crime. After attempting to question Thrombey’s obnoxious family (Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, and Michael Shannon, all competing to massacre the scenery), the detectives decide to lock everyone in the house until a Southern-accented, Poirot-parodying Daniel Craig can figure things out.
If you’re starting to have serious Clue flashbacks, you’re not alone.
Naturally, it all goes to hell from there. People turning on each other, people sticking syringes in sinister-looking vials, people touching other people’s too-elaborate knife collection, and people getting told by Chris Evans, one by one, to “eat sh*t.” (We’ll be buying a ticket just for that scene alone.)
Knives Out is out in theaters this Thanksgiving.
